GEORGE W. HURST 1931-2012


CALDWELL -- George W. Hurst, 81, of Caldwell, died Sunday (Dec. 30, 2012) at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell.

He was born Dec. 9, 1931, in Belle Valley, son of the late Albert Urbane and Sarah S. Rayner Hurst.

Mr. Hurst was a 1950 graduate of Belle Valley High School, and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. He retired in 1993 from the Central Ohio Coal Company, where he was superintendent of stripping. He was a member of First Church of Christ in Caldwell, where he was a member of the Lambda Phi Sunday School Class, and formerly served as a deacon. He enjoyed farming, and he loved his family and his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Elaine Weekley Hurst, whom he married Oct. 27, 1951, and who died July 18, 2011; a grandson, Brandon J. Sholtis; and two great-grandsons, Braydon and Boone McKee.

Surviving are four daughters, Debbie C. (Rick) Bailey and Becky J. (Mike) Lemaster, both of Caldwell, Tammy E. (Robert) Miley of Sarahsville, and Teresa A. (Dave) Densmore of Caldwell; a sister, Norma (Joe) Dudley of Cumberland; a brother, Herb (Lois Ann) Hurst of Caldwell; a sister-in-law, Shirley Rayner of Caldwell; a brother-in-law, James Velosky of Dayton, Ky.; nine grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calling hours were Tuesday at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East St., Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dale Hunt officiating.

A military graveside service will follow in Olive Cemetery, conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations.
