HAMPTON - Marvin 'Chick' Dennis Barbrey, 82, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, after a lengthy illness. Born in Sampson County, N.C., Oct. 30, 1920, Marvin had been a Peninsula resident since 1952.

Chick was a self-employed carpenter and was a member of Langley Baptist Church, Hampton.

Preceded in death by a son, Marvin D. Barbrey Jr., Marvin is survived by his wife of 62 years, Beulah Powell Barbery; his daughter, Joyce Adams of Hampton; two sons, Sherill Barbrey of Hampton and Jerry Barbrey of Tabb; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; one sister and five brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service was conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, in Parklawn Memorial Park. Mr. Ed Lilley and the Rev. Duke officiated. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, is in charge of arrangements.
