María Josefa Antonia Villa y Váldez was born at Mission La Purísima Concepción the evening of October 30, 1818. She was baptized at the mission October 31, 1818 (LPC Baptism 02984). She was the daughter of corporal Vicente Ferrer Villa y Martínez and María Rita Quitería Váldez y Quintero. Her maternal grandmother, Sebastiana Quintero y Rubio, was a Los Angeles pobladora in 1781.

She married (1) José Juan de los Ángeles Chapman y Ortega at Los Angeles September 1, 1844 (SGL Marriage 01980). She was pregnant with their last child, Senida, at the time of her husband's death. Less than 3 months after his death in October 1866 she married (2) the widower Francisco Co(r)sillo y Rodríguez at the Los Angeles Plaza Church on December 26.
