Roscoe Allen Shackelford, 89, Kokomo, passed away on Saturday Dec. 19, 2009, at Golden Living Center. He was born May 30, 1920, in Russiaville, to William and Arelia (Warden)Shackelford. On Sept. 11, 1944, he married Beatrice Joy Norma Bierdemann, in Adelaide, South Australia, and she preceded him in death on June 7, 2000.

He surved in the United States Army during World War II, from 1942 to 1945, in New Guinea and the Philippines. He participated in the Papuan, New Guinea, Leyte and Luzon campaignes. He was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries suffered in Luzon on March 23, 1945. His wife, Beatrice, served in the Royal Australian Air Force from 1944 to 1946. He later worked for Chrysler and retired after 32 years of employment there.

Survivors include two sons, Danny (Sharon) Shackelford, McGrawsville, and Gary Shackelford, Waupecong; one daughter, Sandra Norris, Waupecong; five grandchildren, Jessica Shackelford, Neisha Cardwell, Theresa Fanning, Brenda Smith, and Kristy Cardona; and 11 great-grandchildren, Braden, Allison, Carson, Wesley, Justin, Lela, Makayla, Andrew, Madison, Jadyn and Isabella.

In addition to his wife Beatrice Shackelford, he was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers; and one sister.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home with Pastor Kenny Cole officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery.
