GULFPORT --- Victor James Daniel, Jr., 83, died Wednesday, July 19, 2000, in Gulfport.
Mr. Daniel was born in Meridian and was a long time resident of Gulfport. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Gulfport. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University and attended the U.S. Naval Academy. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a retired Lieutenant Colonel with the Air Force Reserve. He was former president of the Mississippi Power Company, serving from 1972 to 1981. He was elected chairman of the board of Mississippi Power in 1980. He served as president of the Southeastern Electric Exchange and as a director of the Mississippi State University Alumni Foundation. He was a member of the Gulfport Yacht Club and the Retired Officers Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor James Daniel, Sr. and Nell Lee Henry Daniel. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Bailey Daniel of Gulfport; two daughters, Amy Lynn Daniel of Pensacola and Elizabeth Ann Daniel of Huntsville, Ala.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Gulfport. A service will be at 11 a.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church in Gulfport where friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until service time. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Gulfport.
