Elaine M. Almquist, 91, of Salina, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2011. She was born October 3, 1920 in Beloit, the daughter of Harley and Minerva (Loy) Myers.
Elaine was a gifted school teacher, beginning in rural Saline county where she taught all 8 grades. She spent many additional years teaching 3rd grade at Gypsum, Assaria, and SE of Saline.

Elaine wrote inspiring devotionals and a brilliant autobiography titled "Thread by Thread: The Tapestry of My Life." She was an accomplished seamstress and quilting artist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence E. Almquist, and two brothers, Thaine Myers and Lester Myers.

Survivors include her son, Calvin B. Almquist of Dallas, TX; daughter, Charlotte Melcher and husband Chuck of Lexington, KY; sister, Martha Dlabal of Dekalb, IL; sister-in-law, Rita Myers of Barnard; five grandchildren, Deborah Perpetua of Vashon, WA, David Melcher and wife Francesca of Rovereto, Italy, Daniel Melcher and wife Rachel of Highland Park, IL, Jennifer Engelbrecht and husband Bruce of Philadelphia, PA, and Heather Collins and husband Michael of Houston, TX; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Assaria Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church or Salina Presbyterian Manor.
