Paul Rea Bingham was born March 26, 1898, in Burdette township, Hand Co., South Dakota, the first child of George B. & Mary E. (Kenyon) Bingham. He attended country school and helped on the family farm.

On September 12, 1918, the "Third draft registration day for men ages 18 through 45", Paul registered in Miller, Hand Co., SD for WWI Draft.

*From warfarehistorynetwork.com :
At least ostensibly, World War I ended first with the cessation of armed hostilities between the warring powers at the famed “11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month,” that is November 11, 1918. The official, or diplomatic, end of World War I came later at the Treaty of Versailles, June 28, 1919. *

On November 16, 1918, he married Ruby Ettie (Snodderly) in Vermillion, Clay Co., SD. Ruby was born in Missouri to George W. & Laura E. (Mitchell) Snodderly.

Paul served in WWI, and by occupation was a mechanic.
Note: The only reason I can think of for their daughter, Laura Mae, to have been born in 1919 in Louisiana is that even tho' we think of WWI ending Nov. 11, 1918, I believe those who had registetered for the draft Sept. 12, 1918 were drafted after the Nov. 11, 1918 date. Perhaps Paul and Ruby went to Louisiana where he may have taken basic training, and she stayed there after he was shipped overseas. My Dad talked about Paul being gassed in WWI.

Paul and Ruby were the parents of four children: Laura Mae, born in LA; Vernon H., born in MN; Marvin W., born in MO; and Norman E., born in IA.

In 1920 census for Atchison Twp., Nodaway Co., Missouri on Jan, 15, 1920, Paul, Ruby, and infant daughter, Laura Mae, were living with Ruby's parents. Paul's occupation was "Motor Mechanic". A short time later, they moved to Braddyville, Page Co., Iowa, where they owned their home and Paul owned a mechanic garage.
The family, now with 4 children, were all living in Braddyville, Iowa in 1935, but by 1940, Ruby and the two oldest children were in living together in Portland, OR. Paul remained in Iowa with the two youngest sons, Marvin and Norman.

Paul also served in WWII. See below:
