William Mason married Margaret MacGillivray on May 27th, 1833 at the Ottawa Notre Dame Basilica. The couple were listed as residing in Bytown, Ontario, Canada and the witnesses were David MacGillivray and Margaret Mason.

Obituary:

From The Utica Sentinel (Macomb County, Michigan), Saturday, Nov. 1, 1884:

"Died - - Thursday, Oct. 23, Wm. Mason in the 81 year of his age. Mr. Mason had been quite feeble for some time with, seemingly, a complication of diseases, his heart, lungs and stomach being affected. He leaves a wife and six children to mourn his loss. He was a member of the Catholic church at Utica. Mr. Mason was born near Cork, Limerick Co. Ireland, and came to this country in 1832. He has had many interesting experiences, going to California soon after gold was discovered, being one of either the first or second companies that went. While crossing the desert, they went 14 days with nothing to eat, save a few quarters of dried apples, and a few pieces of dried beef. His mule died and he went a good share of the way on foot. He also visited Pikes Peak. Much more of interest could be given, but we have not the time to note them down. We will leave him at rest."
