Anita Christine Watson Marsters was born at Stewards Mill, Freestone County, Texas on January 31, 1925. Her parents were Charles Henry Watson and Ava Katherine Bass. She had an older half sister, Marjorie Watson, who was married to her mother's brother, Aubrey Bass. Christine spent the first twelve years of her life right in the center of the community and developed an affinity for it that never died. At the age of 12, her father passed away. Her mother then moved them to New London, Texas to teach school. Christine graduated from New London High School before attending Baylor University.While in New London, Ava Bass Watson married John W. "Jake" Jacobs. Soon Christine had another half-sister, Pamela who married Billy Jim Day.
On November 24, 1944, Christine married Frank Harrison Marsters, Jr. in Olympia, Washington. After serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during World War II, Christine and Frank lived briefly in Pennsylvania. Then they returned to Texas.
Stewards Mill was never far from Christine's heart and mind. Even though the couple lived in the Houston area and operated The Marsters Company specializing in land development, real estate and residential construction; they always maintained ranching interest on Christine's inherited land in Freestone County. They called it the WX Ranch and retired there in 1977.
Born into a family with a rich past in Freestone County, Christine was active in preserving that history. Henry Awalt, her great-great grandfather, received a land grant from the Republic of Texas while Major Pleasant C. Whitaker, another great-great grandfather, served in the Army of the Republic of Texas. Christine's land was a legacy from her father and her grandfather, Alexander Tazewell Watson. She served on the Freestone County History Book Committee and was a member of the Jose Antonio Navarro Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
In 1978, Christine was instrumental in starting the Stewards Mill Annual Christmas gathering, which is still going on today. For many years, Christine told the Christmas story out of Luke, Chapter 2.Born and raised in the Baptist Church, she was a member of First Baptist Church in Fairfield.
Christine died in Fairfield on December 13, 2012. She was survived by three sons: Frank Harrison Marsters III and wife Linda, Scott Watson Marsters, Sr. and wife Natalia, and Charles Geoffrey "Jeff" Marsters; a sister, Pam (Jacobs) Day; grandchildren: Lindsay Marsters, Frank H. Marsters, IV, James Marsters, Melissa Marsters, Scott W. Marsters, Jr. and Samuel A. Marsters; and Great-grandchildren, as well as a host of cousins and friends.
