"Vernon Carl Bohnen, 80, of rural Gilbert died peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at his residence.

"He was born Sept. 10, 1923, in Freeport, Minn., to John and Philomene (Vogel) Bohnen. He was raised in Freeport and spent many years working as a farm hand on his aunt and uncles farm prior to moving to the Iron Range in 1960. While on the Range he worked for Malton Electric, Bechtel Construction and also as a farm hand. He was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church and the local labor union No. 1097. He enjoyed visiting friends and mowing grass.

"Survivors include his brothers, John (MaryJane) and Marvin (Shirley) Bohnen; sisters, Victoria Sirois, Helen Cunningham, Rita Barttelson and Carol Welle; caregivers, Keith and Anne Auel and their children, Jacob and Joseph, of rural Gilbert; and numerous nieces and nephews.

"He was preceded in death by his father, John, in 1956; his mother, Philomene, in 1927; stepmother, Agnes, in 1974; brother, Alquin, in 1994; and sisters, Dorothy Bohnen in 1965 and Alice Hoppe in 2000.

"Burial will be in the Church of the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in New Munich, Minn."
