Husband of the late Romayne Farrell died at age 86. He was a US Navy corpsman in WWII. He retired from the US Navy Dental Corps in 1980. During the Vietnam War he served on the USS New Jersey and then became the inspector general and chief of dental corps and assistant chief, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery. Later he was a professor of dentistry at Temple University, Philadelphia, Pa.


Virginia Beach - Rear Admiral Paul E. Farrell, DC, USN died Oct 19, 2012 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Born Nov 15, 1926 in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, he was the second youngest of eight children born to James P. Farrell and Edith M. Kerk. Admiral Farrell attended West Catholic High School and LaSalle University in Philadelphia. During WWII, he was a Navy Hospital Corpsman, and following the war, served aboard USS Fargo. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dentistry in 1951, and served in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps until his retirement in 1980. His Navy assignments included Oakland CA, San Diego CA , Bethesda MD, Key West FL aboard the USS Gilmore, US Naval Academy, Port Lyautey Morocco, Norfolk VA, and Washington DC. During the Vietnam War, he was senior dentist aboard the battleship USS New Jersey. In 1976, he was promoted to flag rank, and served as Inspector General and as Chief of Dental Corps and Assistant Chief, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery. After his retirement from the Navy, he was a Professor of Dentistry at Temple University in Philadelphia. His wife Romayne Farrell, a former Navy Nurse, died in 1993. He is survived by a daughter and son, and three grandchildren. The funeral service was held at Fort Myer's Memorial Chapel on January 29, 2013, followed by burial with honors.
