Lebanon, NH—John H. Demers, 64, a lifelong Lebanon resident died Tuesday, December 4, 2012 in the comfort of his home.
He was born on April 9, 1948 in Hanover, NH to the late Edward R. "Frenchy" & Mary E. (McDermott) Demers. He attended Sacred Heart School and Lebanon High School. After school he enlisted with US Army and served during the Vietnam War, receiving an honorable discharge due to a service connected disability. The majority of John's adult life was spent helping different disabled veterans groups as well as individual disabled veterans. John will be remembered as a big man with a bigger heart and very generous person to his family and friends, using his time and resources to help them out. He was known as fun loving, quick to offer words of wisdom and had great sense of humor.
John was a past member of the Hartford Elks Lodge and a member of the American Legion Post 22. John enjoyed collecting Coca Cola memorabilia, his cats Miss Kitty, Chester and Momma Kitty all of whom he rescued and most of all spending time with his grandsons. He was predeceased by a sister Mary "Bunny" Dodge. John is survived by his loving son Justin Demers of Lebanon, who was by his side taking care of his daily needs; his daughter Sharon; two brothers Edward "Tiger" Demers and his wife Judy of Alaska and Tom Demers and his wife Janet of White River Jct., VT; a sister Peggy Villar of Orford, NH; many beloved grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, his Goddaughter Michelle Moses and his dear friends Blanche and Kevin McCabe and caregiver Debbie Johnson. At John's request there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 10, 2012 at 11 AM in the Valley Cemetery in Lebanon.
