Earl Lewis Chandler, 85, died of leukemia on March 17, 2012. Earl was born in Tulsa, Okla., on Aug. 18, 1926, to Earl and Annie Chandler. In 1928, he and his mother moved to Wichita, Kan. After graduating from Wichita East, Earl joined the Air Force. He returned to Wichita after the war to graduate from Wichita State University, where he met and married the first love of his life, Nancy Quinlisk. First starting his career as a draftsman and car salesman, Earl found his passion as banker, a role he was to proudly serve for 35 years. He got his start at Union National Bank in Wichita, and then in 1968 became the President for Lawrence National Bank in Lawrence, Kan. In 1975, he and Nancy moved to Olathe, Kan., where he served as President and CEO for First National Bank of Olathe for 19 years. He also served in many charitable organizations, including president of the Lawrence United Fund, founding director of Faith Village, Inc., served on the board of the Olathe Medical Center, and was deeply involved in Heart to Heart. For service to the community, he was honored with the J.T. Barton award by the City of Olathe. After 45 years of marriage, Nancy died, and Earl shortly retired from the bank. In 1994, he married the second love of his life, Judy Wenger. Earl and Judy moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., where they enjoyed 17 years of married life before he passed. While in Scottsdale, Earl served on the Boards of Heritage Bank and Pinnacle Peak Country Club. Earl was a kind, generous man, who made a difference in the lives of many who knew him. Earl's family will miss his love of telling stories, his sense of whimsy, and his passion for justice. Earl is survived by his wife, Judy, and three children, Earl (Chan) Jr. of Madison, Wis., and wife Cathy, Leslie Chandler of Olathe and partner Liz Schneeberg, and Andy Chandler of Lenexa, Kan., and fiance Lynn Ross; his step- daughter, Jami Salamore of Scottsdale and husband Bruno; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Olathe Public Library or the Olathe Hospice. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at Peace Christian Church, 12251 Lamar Avenue, Overland Park, Kan.
