In 1870, Hale Bliss was age 21, single and living in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. His occupation was listed as an apothecary clerk. The 1880 census showed Hale married and had one child. His wife was Martha E. Bliss, age 23, and their son was Earnest Bliss, age 1 year. They were still living in Cook County, Illinois and Hale was listed as a druggist.
