Aletia was born in Brown Township, Carroll County, Ohio, and the daughter of James and Jane Love. Her parents were born in Ireland, and probably married in Pennsylvania where they started their family, before removing to Ohio.

Aletia married Samuel Carson on February 11, 1875 in Carroll County, Ohio. An interesting note about the marriage was that Samuel's family removed to Porter County, Indiana about 1861-1863, and that he returned to Ohio to marry her more than a decade later. Aletia was less than ten years old when the Carson's left Ohio.

Samuel and Aletia settled in Winfield, Lake County, Indiana. The couple had two daughters: Eva and Jettie.
