Signe was the daughter of Mary Haugen. She married Elmer Gustafson on Feb. 7, 1920, at Humboldt. They were the parents of Kenneth, Glenn, Eunice, and Marilyn.

Feb 4, 1978 - Humboldt Independent - Signe Gustafson, 78, died Wednesday, Feb. 1 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 4, in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Humboldt, with burial in Union Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Elmer; sons, Kenneth of Humboldt, and Glenn of Racine, Wisc.; two daughters, Mrs. Albert Grove of Fort Dodge, and Mrs. Leslie Kubly of Eagle Grove; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one brother, Selmer Haugen of Laguna Hills, CA.

Signe Haugen was born and educated at Bode. She was married to Elmer Gustaefson on Feb. 7, 1920, at Humboldt. They farmed in the Humboldt area and moved into Humboldt, where they have lived for many years. Pastor Paul Otto officiated at the ceremonies. Honorary casketbearers were Carter Johnson, Robert DeSmidt, and Donald Larson. Casketbearers were Gary Green, John Koesler, Steven Kubly, Larry Grove, Curtis Blunt, and Craig Melhus. Mrs. Stanely Nelson was soloist and Mrs. O.N. Siverson organist. Mrs. Eilert Sampson and Mrs. Carl Day were in charge of flower arrangements and Eilert Sampson was usher.
