Irene Ecklein, 65, died in Mesa, AZ on November 17, 1972 while visiting friends. The Eckleins wintered in Arizona and had recently gone to Mesa for the winter months. It was while visiting in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Stensgaard that Mrs. Ecklein became ill. Though emergency equipment was used, she did not regain consciousness.

For many years, Irene assisted her husband in the operation of the Arlington Bakery, and as a result gained many friends throughout the area, all of whom share the loss with Wally.

In 1930, she married Wallace Ecklein and the couple lived in St. Paul. In 1942, they moved to Arlington SD, where she and her husband operated a bakery for 30 years. The past 12 years, they spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona, returning to operate their bakery during the summer season.
