Janet A. Getek, 74, of 26 Oak Grove Ave., Barrington, R.I., and Parsonfield, Maine, died at home on Monday, Nov. 30, 2009. She was the wife of the late Edward S. Getek.
Born in Malone, N.Y., a daughter of the late Robert and Ruth (Conner) Young, she lived in Barrington for the past 52 years. She was an office manager for Media Services Group in Providence before retiring. She had also been a legal secretary and a market researcher.
She was a 1953 graduate of Robinson Female Seminary and a 1954 graduate of Bryant University. Janet was the sitting president of the Barrington Woman's Club and a member of Barrington Jr. Woman's Club.
She was a life member of Clan Young Society and an avid bowler and bridge player. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Vermont to visit with her two grandsons, Ryan and Ross Getek, and to her summer home in Parsonfield, Maine.
She leaves a daughter, Nancy Getek of Barrington; a son, Edward "Butch" Getek of Jeffersonville, Vt.; a brother, Donald Young of Berwick, Maine; and a sister, Dorothy Eberts of Alamogordo, N.M.
There will be a memorial service on Friday, Dec. 5, at 11am in the Barrington Congregational Church, 461 County Road, Barrington. Burial will be in Forest Chapel Cemetery.
