Jeannie Marie Hayes, 29 of Rockford died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center.
Born Feb. 15, 1983, to Philip and Claire (nee Deters) Hayes.
Attended Penn High School where she was a member of the marching band in Mishawaka, IN, and was a graduate of Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI. After college she interned at WNDU in South Bend, IN, and WISN in Milwaukee. Jeannie was hired as a news anchor in Rockford, IL for WREX where she had been for seven years, co-hosted the Morning Show for B103 since February, and was very proud to have worked for Harpo Studios for eight years doing freelance work with Oprah's studios.
Jeannie was currently writing a children's book that she was going to dedicate to her niece.
She was a wonderful and beautiful person with a fun loving personality, always had lots of energy and had a funny sense of humor.
Survivors include her parents, Philip and Claire Hayes; sisters, Kristen (Brian) Nolan and Lisa Hayes, both of South Bend, IN; paternal grandfather, James (Jeannie) Hayes; niece, Tess Nolan; several aunts, uncles and cousins in Missouri and Wisconsin; and all of her friends and co-workers.
Predeceased by maternal grandparents, A.J. (Jean) Deters and paternal grandmother, Jean Hayes.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to her WREX and B103/Maverick Media family and the Rockford community for the love and support they have shown.
Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Road, with visitation from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Additional services will be held in Granger, IN, near South Bend next week.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to Riverside Community Bank, 6855 E. Riverside Blvd., Rockford, IL 61114, for funds to support Jeannie's community causes.

Even mice could count Jeannie Hayes as their friend.
The critters that infiltrated the cornfield-surrounded WREX studio were released outside to safety after Hayes caught them in garbage cans, said Rebecca Klopf, a producer and reporter at WREX where Hayes had worked as a producer, anchor and show host.
On Friday — a day after the 29-year-old died of an aggressive form of leukemia that was diagnosed Tuesday — her father recalled that her infatuation with animals started as a kid. "She had to pet every single dog within eyesight," Phil Hayes said.
Hayes often had groups bring animals onto the set at WREX. Among them: a huge desert tortoise with which she tried to snuggle.
Hayes joined WREX as a producer in 2005. She also was anchor of the station's weekday noon newscast and host and producer of "13 Cares," a community talk show that airs Sunday mornings.
For the past several months, she had been co-host with Sean Henry of the morning radio program on B103, too. Her positive demeanor caused Henry to remark to her last week: "One of these days we're going to figure out which Care Bear you are."
Hayes didn't miss a beat: "I'm Sunshine Bear."
Hayes grew up in Granger, IN, near South Bend, with her parents and two sisters: Lisa Hayes, 25, and Kristen Nolan, 26, who is married to Brian and has a daughter, Tess.
"She was a vegetarian who did not like to cut vegetables because she was afraid of knives," Lisa said.
Kristen said Jeannie was the organizer among them and planned family vacations on which they all went parasailing and ziplining. Claire, their mother, said Jeannie was an expert player of the word game Taboo. "A lot of times, her sisters did not want to play with her because she was so good."
Jeannie was meticulous about grammar and punctuation on the job, and her upbeat personality off the clock was the same at work, said Maggie Hradecky, a former news director at WREX who hired Hayes in 2005. Hradecky manages the Community Content House for GateHouse Media, which owns the Register Star.
"Jeannie got excited about everything," she said. "It was like watching the world through a kid's eyes. The world was nice."
