George D. Smith was born in Franklin County, NY, Feb. 1, 1854, came to Missouri in 1866, professed faith in Christ and united with the Baptist Church of St. John in Putnam, now Mt. Hope Church; married Florence C. Hamlin Apr. 2, 1882. To this union ten children were born. His wife and one child preceded him to the great beyond. Brother Smith departed this life May 19, 1916, after a lingering illness of a year of cancer. He leaves nine children, three sisters and a host of friends to mourn his loss. Funeral at Mt. Hope.
