Post Journal Obituary:
Mrs. Lina J. Stickle, aged 75, mother of Associate Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson, and a life-long resident of this vicinity, died at the home of a daughter in Frewsburg, early Sunday morning. Her death came after an illness of about four years.
Mrs. Strickle had been bedridden since last January. She succumbed at the home of Mrs. Ella Springer, a daughter, 15 Prospect Street, Frewsburg at 6:10 A.M. Sunday. Mrs. Springer was at her bedside when the end came and another daughter, Mrs. Helen Adams, also of Frewsburg, arrived a few minutes later.
Justice Jackson and Mrs. Jackson arrived this morning from their home near Washington, D.C. and are stopping at the home of Mr. Jackson's sister, Mrs. Percy Adams of Frewsburg.
Also surviving is a stepdaughter, Mrs. Grace Forness of Salamanca; a brother, Daniel Houghwot of Russell, Pa.; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Mrs. Stickle was born on Jan. 10, 1867, in Farmington Township, near Russell, Pa. Her maiden name was Houghwot. Fifty-eight years ago she married William E. Jackson, a farmer. He later ran a hotel and livery business in Frewsburg for many years. He died Jan. 25, 1915.
On July 3, 1922, she married Calvin H. Stickle of Salamanca, a salesman. The couple resided for a short time in Buffalo, then moved to Jamestown. Mr. Stickle died June 14, 1930. Since that time Mrs. Stickle has spent her summers at her home on the Lakewood Road and her winters with her daughter in Frewsburg.
She was a member of the Methodist Church in Frewsburg; Sunnybrook Rebekah Lodge of Frewsburg, and a former member of Union Grange and the Order of Eastern Star in Jamestown.
The funeral is to be held Tuesday at 2:30 P.M. from the Stanley Funeral Home, Frewsburg, with Rev. W.O. Brainard of Sugar Grove, Pa., formerly of Frewsburg officiating. Interment will be in Frewsburg Cemetery. The body is reposing at the funeral home.
