Howard L. Janssen, 66, of 5200 Killdeer Ave., Swaledale, died Wednesday (May 8, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Rockwell, with the Rev. Robert Dodge officiating. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

The family suggests memorials to the Howard L. Janssen Memorial Fund.

Howard L. Janssen was born Jan. 29, 1930, in Franklin County to Henry and Bertha (Benning) Janssen. Howard graduated from Geneva High School in 1947. Howard married Loretta K. DeBour on April 2, 1955, in the Zion Reformed Church at Sheffield. Howard farmed and lived near Swaledale his entire married life. He also worked for Felco Land of Lakes in Mason City, retiring in 1990 after 28 years. Howard enjoyed camping and his grandchildren.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Swaledale, and he served on the board of the Pleasant Valley Apartments in Swaledale.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta K. Janssen of Swaledale; two sons, Steve Janssen and his wife, Anietra, of LeMars, and Mark Janssen and his wife, Susan, of Maple Grove, Minn.; two grandchildren, Amy and Eric Janssen of LeMars; one sister, Edna Schabel and her husband, Glenn, of Sheffield; and one brother, Marvin Janssen and his wife, Betty, of Hampton.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
