|Remembering my brothers and my sister from Lakewood PD. God bless you all and thank you for your supreme sacrifice keeping us all safe. Their murderer, Maurice Clemmons, was neutralized by Police a few days later when he tried to ambush and assasinate an additional police officer; this one a City of Seattle officer. Clemmons was in possession of one of the fallen officers' service side arms at the time of his planned ambush on the fifth officer. Several of Clemmon's family members who assisted in the horrific crimes and his attempted escape are now serving time for their involvement in this mass murder of law enforcement officers, the worst in Washington State history. God Bless the men and women of law enforcement, everywhere. My thoughts and prayers are with you all, your families and the two barista employees inside the coffee shop at the time of the massacre. Their courage and clear heads were instrumental in identifying the suspects as they left the scene of the crime. I will remember you all.|
The memorial you see is located in front of the Forza Coffee Shop in Lakewood, Washington. In the background is the parking lot of the coofee shop, where one of the four officers fell. The memorial includes a large flower bed, flag poles and an etched badge in the sidewalk directly in front of this memorial. The street name was also changed in honor of the officers. The day I took this photograph, I personally thanked the coffee baristas for their diligent and brave actions on that fateful morning in 2009. I sat in the exact spot where two of the officers were instantly killed. This spot not only is a historical reminder of man's cruelty to man, but it is hallowed ground for any law enforcement officer that steps foot within its threshold. The atmosphere inside the shop changes you just a little and you are not the same person when you walk back outside. Ask any officer that has been there.
05-19-11 Today the driver of the getaway car, Mr Allen (Markus, I beleive) was convicted in Pierce County,WA Superior Court on four counts of Aggravated Homicide, to serve 4 life sentences. It is a great feeling to know that the scales of justice have actually tipped to the side of innocence, decency and integrity. God bless us all. NOTE June 2011 Mr Allen was given 420 years for his invovlement as getaway driver. May justice be done!
