|My dear husband, Chet McCaig, the best cemetery pilot around, waiting patiently for me to take "just one more" photo at Memphis National Cemetery. |
Some people ask why we do this, well.....
We've fought back the thicket that covered the trail.
Climbed barbed wire fences, got caught on a nail,
Went places we shouldn't, been chased by some dogs,
Waded the creek and climbed over logs.
We know they are near, so we travel on through
Just looking for someone who's special to you.
We've stumbled through brambles out looking for graves,
Searched under thick vines, overtaking their names,
Fell into a ditch, got covered with mud,
Been bug bit and blistered by hot summer sun.
But now that we're here, we smile down at this place.
We've finally found them! But only by grace.
Not really our family, but they're your loved ones so,
We found them and photo'd for generations to come.
If you can't visit in person, you know how things go,
You'll have this remembrance by a friend you don't know.
If this place ever crumbles, as some headstones do,
Still others can find them and remember like you.
It's just one of those things....you either get it or you don't....and we do!
