Photo of Cost Cemetery
Close up of small plaque on Right pillar of entrance gate reads: Erected in honor of the Pioneers who cleared Away the forests and Destroyed the abiding Places of the wild Beasts so that civilization might ocupy the ground. The Find-a-Grave site calls this the "Cost" Cemetery, but it is usually referred to as the Pioneer Cemetery. Sometimes it is referred to as the McClure Cemetery. It is located in section 22 in Bethel Township, McDonough County, behind a stand of trees in a farmer's pasture. No markings from the road to direct the public to this cemetery. Section 22 was originally purchased by my ancestor, Greenup McClure, in 1835.
