My interest in genealogy actually began with my interest in digitally collecting, restoring and cataloging family photos my mother shared with me, many of which were covered in mold from water damage 50 years ago. As extended family members learned of my endeavors they began sharing their photos and the memories and stories that accompanied them.

At some point I realized I needed to find a tool to help me with organizing and sharing with my family and with our future generations what I had. That led me to joining Ancestry.com about 8 years ago and using Family Tree Maker.

After entering digitally a lot of information I had on paper I began to dig deeper in researching to find more information about individuals I was interested in, and try to solve some family "mysteries", stories alluded to but kept "secret". My research led me to Find a Grave on many occasion.

At first Find a Grave was just another source to cite to validate facts I had. That was, until, I came across someone who had information about the mysterious "other" family my great grandfather had after he mysteriously left my great grandmother, leaving only a letter, after their 5th child was born.

Being a strong, gentle, devote Christian woman my great grandma Florence refused to discuss it with anyone. Her children only remembered coming home that day to her crying as she washed the dishes. It ws never spoken of again.

I reached out to the person who had posted the information on Find a Grave about my great grandmother and he kindly responded with photos and emails about the stories he had of my great grandfather and offered to help me extend my search to my great great grandparents any way he could.

It was because of this encounter I decided the least I could do was to contribute photos of graves from my local cemeteries for people like me who are intrigued by learning about history, their own history.
