Bio Photo My mother, Loulie Jo, and I share a passion for history and genealogy. While my mother has been transferring records to, I continue to search backwards for additional clues to fill in the blanks. I am also interested in oral histories, letters and diaries/journals that provide a social perspective on the lives and times. My current focus is on 18th century Georgia and from c.1620-1780 Virginia and the surrounding areas.

Maternal family surnames include: Crowder - Clements - Burns - McIntosh - Kimbrough - McGlasson - McGehee - Burnley - Watkins - Haden - Bell - Barlow - Grannies/Grannis - Chipman - Howland

Other names to connect: The 19th century Browns of Rhode Island with Annie Duffus connection, The Schlomm/Schlomkowitz family who changed name to Stevens, and Tanchefsky(spelling?)w/Rickman connection from NY area.

Vandalized Grave
Hi Michele,

Adaline Amelia COVERT HART Memorial# 97410424.

No I had not head about this sad news and one that will never makes since in why someone would do this. I am not sure at this time if any of their children are still living, but I will try and reach all that I can. Thank you for contacting me on this matter.
Who every done this needs to be caught and should have to pay for all the damages.
I also added this note on their memorial so it is documented of the vandalized grave.

It's nice that you and your mom have the same passion for history. It must be wonderful to share with her in this way. :-)

Hi Michele,

Yes, I understand what you mean about being far away from your family burial locations. Mine are all at least 1000 miles away.

Not all that long ago, some nit wit was stealing copper vases from the cemetery where my mom is interred and chopping them up to sell off as scrap metal. I also have family from several generations back buried in Canada, and it is my understanding that another idiot stole one of their gravestones and cemented it into their porch.

Anyway, I am glad they caught these fools, and hopefully they will be punished in a way where they can understand how serious and hurtful their actions were. Maybe clean the cemeteries and be shown photos of the people whose resting places they are caring for. There is an obvious disconnect somewhere with these vandals.

I will try to remember to check and see if another story comes out about these people. I do hope they have to face the families.

Thanks again for bringing my attention to this story. Good hearing from you.

Hi agan, Michele,

I found this article which indicates that the families have been contacted.

It's very good of you to follow up as you have. I know if I was one of the families, I would appreciate that.

Thanks again,

Vandalized Grave ~ Hart
Oh, I see. Maybe they are legally obligated to at least attempt to contact the family. In truth, the family may actually be entitled to damages, or they may want some say so. Perhaps this is the way the law must handle this.

I just went back to the Hart photo on FB and it sounds like those responsible have been caught. I do not see where the law is requesting contact info, but if you can provide me with the contact details on the officer requesting, I can let them know.

Likewise, if you prefer, you may wish to do so. I must agree that these vandals certainly do owe someone a very big apology.

Thanks again for your concern, Michele. Seems like someone should be doing a whole lot of community service.

Vandalized Grave ~ Hart
Hi Michele,

Thank you for your inquiry. No, I am not related. I read the same info you did about their stone being vandalized. I questioned whether this family should be informed as I could not see where it would serve a good purpose, and may only upset them. I do understand that the stones involved will be cleaned.

I feel that the person who posted the personal photos is likely related, but again, what will it help to tell them? Odd thing is I do not understand why they even feel the Hart's were Jewish. One of their daughter's is interred in a Methodist cemetery.

No matter what, these are some really sick people. I hope they catch them and somehow manage to communicate to them just how lowly their conduct is.

Best wishes,

RE: Durand
Thanks for your response. Yes, it is sad that the African American cemeteries from long ago had no markers. They did often use large rocks and stones to mark them. Perhaps there is a place near the cemetery with unusual stones that could possibly be it.

Good luck in your search,

Are you descended from a Joiner line? I am also. What line are you from, and have you been to the Joiner website?
