|Martin Burrell||RE: Mary Phelps Montgomery & Constance Phelps Montgomery Burrell|
I just now read your message. Thank you for contacting me. I will get back to you soon. I am now going to sleep. I was up all night working on genealogy.
Some years ago I made a big mistake. The owner of the house next door met with me concerning her personel knowledge of Mrs. Montgomery and asked that I visit with her. She was a elderly woman at the time and had purchased many item from the Montgomery estate.
I was young and did not contact her. I do not even know the woman's name. Just that she was an officer in the DAR. [One of my great failing is that I have never had a memory for peoples names.]
Good Morning, Martin S. Burrell
P.S.: I have been in the old Burrell home many time for family funerals. My grandparents moved out of it many years ago. It had the first electric elavator in Portland and they owned one of the first all electric autos in Portland around 1900. My father drove one of the first motor cycles in Portland and got his first speeding ticket with it and his father let him spend one night in jail because of the ticket.
At least until the Oregonian found out and ran an article about his speeding and how his father would not give him bail money.
Before that the Burrell son's rode all over town by horse. They could travel across country for miles without fences.
