Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care;
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist,
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you;
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled;
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder as you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew;
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.

FYI There is a Key Family reunion coming up.
62nd Annual Key Family Reunion
Sunday, August 13, 2017
(always the 2nd Sunday in August)
Dear Key Family Member:
On Sunday, August 13, the 62nd Annual Key Family Reunion will be held at Leonard High School. The cafeteria will be open about 10 a.m. and will remain open until the last person is ready to leave. This will be the 62nd consecutive year the descendants of Andrew Jackson Key and Sarah Elizabeth Mangrum (spelled Mangum by some) Key will have met to celebrate their heritage and enjoy the renewal of friendships. (No doubt there have been many earlier reunions, but the last 61 have been consecutive.)
Lunch will be potluck and will be served at noon, so bring your favorite dish or dishes and get there in time to fellowship before we eat. It is at this time that old stories are retold, old photos are reviewed, and old experiences are passed on to another generation. Bring your family albums to share with the rest of us, and your camera to take some more pictures.
Also, we are still looking for someone to serve as a contact person for each of the twelve families descending directly from Andrew Jackson and Sarah Elizabeth Key. If you descend from one of the following, you will qualify and are somewhat obligated to perpetuate their legacy. Check below to see if your branch is covered.
(Andrew Jackson and Sarah Key and their 1st four children moved to Leonard, Texas in 1881 from Chesterfield County, South Carolina) They bought about 2 square miles of land about 4 miles west of Leonard and built their home there. They and several other family members are buried in the East Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The cemetery is located on the East side of County Road 981 about a quarter mile north off Hwy 78. From the square in Leonard, go west on Hwy 78 about 3 miles and take a right (north) on CR 981. Cemetery on right about a quarter of a mile.

If you have volunteered for your branch, please remind me this year or sign up again on the form that will be available at the reunion.
Our family is much larger than my contact list. We are NOT mailing letters to Key Family members this year. This email is the only notice I will send out. Please contact your own family members and remind them of this very special reunion. Please forward this email to all for whom you have email addresses, and send me any email addresses they will share.
Each year we gain some new additions to our family. Please bring them and introduce them to the rest of us. They have a proud and rich heritage. Help them learn to enjoy it. Also, each some of our dear loved ones go home to be with the Lord. The size of our family and the limited contact I have with many of you prevents me from being aware of these. Please share this news also.
May God bless each of you.

Thanks so much for the information - great find! I've update her memorial to move her to the correct cemetery.
|Kathy Robinson||RE: Thank you,|
I have sent you an email on findagrave about Mary C. Dodge Bennet.....I found her tombstone, but she is buried at a different cemetery than you have her listed in. I have created an additional memorial for her at Sapp Cemetery, but I will delete it when you move your memorial from New Venable Cemetery to Sapp Cemetery.
I will happily transfer Holland Dodge to you, but I would prefer to wait until I get his tombstone restored. Sapp Cemetery is a huge undertaking, and I upload photos and add info during the restoration process-it helps me keep track of my progress. I had been searching for his tombstone for TWO years!! I was also thrilled to find his siblings: Seabried Dodge, Mary C. Dodge Bennett and Mary's daughter Effie buried near him - they weren't on any of the old cemetery records for the cemetery. I hope to find many more! If you want more photos of their final resting places, please send me your email address and I will send them to you with details.
