Bio and Links
Bio Photo Thanks to all who have visited my father's memorial, Thomas M. McHale, Jr. Words cannot express what this has meant to me.

If you have time please visit:
My Nana Marguerite Furlong,
My Aunt and Uncle, Joseph and Claire McHale
My Grand Aunt, Mary G. Seufert.

Your time and tokens are so very much appreciated!

Born and raised in Marriottsville, MD to two wonderful parents and 5 siblings, our household was quite active to say the least. We all attended private school despite the financial hardship this imposed on my parents. We were taught good values and morals which I carry with me to this day. Raised in a very devout Irish Catholic household our family values were based on the teachings of the church. I am by no means an angel, God truly knows I have had my troubles. However, I do believe the career I chose was based on what I learned from my parents, Catholic school teachings and the church. I became a psychiatric social worker to help ease the pain of my fellow man and bring hope back into their lives. Life is hard enough and add in some mental illness that is sadly stigmatized by society, only leads to a disastrous end unless there are others to help that individual live their life to the fullest. That is my intention each time I meet with one of my patients.
I love being a graver! I have read about the lives of such wonderful and interesting people. I have also met very empathetic, kind, selfless and overall good individuals in the short amount of time I have been on this sight. This sight is very therapeutic for me. I lost my father 9 yrs ago and my Nana 27 yrs. ago. Two of the most wonderful and kind hearted individuals I have ever encountered until this day. I still cry for their loss.
One of the major reasons behind my participation in Find A Grave is to assist others in locating family members. On a personal note, I had extensive assistance with the research of my own family tree through Find A Grave. I hope to offer the same assistance to others or at the very least honor those that have passed.
Another reason I became involved with Find A Grave is because my home actually backs to a cemetery. I take my dog for walks through this beautiful memorial park and am fascinated at the long, and unfortunately, short lives of our fellow man. It breaks my heart to see old grave sites that are worn and damaged. It is obvious that family has not visited, live out of state or have passed on themselves resulting in no one to care for their loved one's buriel site. These souls seem to be forgotten. It is those sites that I pay particular attention to. They deserve the same respect and dignity in death as they did in life. My hope is that someone will be researching their family tree and locate that forgotten ancestor. We all deserve to be remembered, for life is such a precious gift from God not to be taken for granted or minimized.
If you have a family member or loved one that I have started a memorial for, I absolutely have no problem transferring their memorial into your care. Again, do not hesitate to ask. You can reach me at the e-mail provided.

Family Tree: Names I am researching for my family tree include:

I dedicate this site to my father:

Thomas M. McHale, Jr
Korean War Veteran
Buried at Garrison Forest Veteran's Cemetery
Plot K-7, 10, 1

Born April 8, 1931
Died August 17, 2004

If you would have known him, you would have loved him. A wonderful, gentle, loving soul who touched many lives. I love you dad. You were and always will be my hero.

Bortells of Maryland--Mary Anne Burke Conry

I am the great great grandson of Mary Anne Burke Conry, 1847 -1924, the daughter of Patrick Burke and his wife Catherine Moran. While reviewing her will she left her cousin, Rev T H Bortell 100.00. On further research, through census records, he was the son Kaleb and Bridget Bortell. Do you know the maiden name of Bridget? According to the obituary of Mary Anne Burke Conry, she came to the USA at the age of 3 with her aunt and rejoined her mother and mother. She resided on a plantation in Maryland previous and during the Civil War.
I remember my great aunt speaking of the Bortell plantation in Maryland, but in vague terms.

Hi Shannon!
Thank you so much for visiting my great great grandmother's memorial. It means so much to me when sweet folks like you leave flowers for her...especially when she doesn't even have a grave and we don't know too much about her.
Thanks so so so much!
