Bio and Links
Bio Photo LAURIE JONES CHAPMAN. I was born in Kinston, North Carolina and raised in Richlands, NC, 30 miles to the south-east in southeastern NC. I moved to Virginia to teach in 1978 after graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and have been in the Tidewater Area ever since. I came to Virginia as a junior-high math teacher and now teach geometry part-time for prospective teachers at Old Dominion University here in Norfolk. My husband, David is a professor in ODU's Public Administration Dept and we have one son, David, a grad student at NYU in economics.

I enjoy working on research into my family history begun in the 1950's by distant relatives. Interested in the Oates, Beddard, Thompson and Jones families of Jones, Onslow, Sampson and Greene counties of North Carolina.

RE: Roxie Martin
Thank you. I suspect this particular grave may lack a headstone...

Oak grove/Port Lock
You are brave to do the Portlock Cemetary,It has been extensively recorded,Unless it is a recent burial it's most likely unreadable.Becareful when you go over there,That's not a safe part of town.Take someone with you.Happy hunting : )

RE: John Wilmot Rogers
Apparently he was posted in two cemeteries. Oak Grove and Cedar Grove. so the actual site is Cedar Grove and there is a photo already. Thanks for the help.

Olive Branch
This was extensively mapped in 2009. Anyone buried at that time a headstone more than likely would have the picture posted of the headstone. Just FYI.

Thanks very much!
Laurie;
Thanks very much for the photo of Sarah Stores burial plot. I wasn't aware that she had no headstone, so thank you for the extra time it must have taken to find her place of interment. I really appreciate it. Steve Keefe

RE: James Bedard
A quick search shows her in a New Britain cemetery nearby, check it out and let me know if that is her.

Laurie,

Thanks very much for the rapid response to my request. Carlton and Fannie are my paternal grandparents and this is the first time I have seen their grave. I really appreciate you taking the time to get the picture.

Thanks again,

Kim Keller
