Bio and Links
Bio Photo My name is Joyce Berry Goins and I was born and raised on Backus Mtn., in Fayette County, WV. so the little country cemetery known as the Harrah Cemetery located on Backus Road is very dear to me. I visit the cemetery several times a year . . . I have a parent buried there, two brothers, two sisters, grandparents and great grandparents. The gravestones for myself, my husband and my two children are already there. My husband has parents there, grandparents, brother, cousins also. There are so many unmarked graves there so if you know someone buried there I would appreciate it if you would send me a message. I have been researching for approx ten years and have photo's of probably every person buried there (if they have a stone)

Thank you, Joyce. Robert C Gill is my great-great-great uncle. I appreciate the photo and the explanatory remarks about the monument. Find-a-Grave volunteers are wonderful!

Hi Joyce,
I have very little on Annie Henson's family. I will make a point of explaining your connect to my wife. She is the one that is descended from Annie Henson. I just do the genealogical research for her....lol

Hi Joyce,
Myrtle's last name was Skaggs, she married Joseph Skaggs in 1914 and no father is listed on the marriage record. Joseph married my great grandmother, in 1918, and he is listed as widowed. A relative has told me Myrtle Tincher Skaggs died on March 2, 1917. Eskew would not have mentioned her in his will, she was already dead.

I believe Hulda had all her children out of wedlock and I don't believe she was ever married. On the death certificates, Eskew's father is listed as John Richmond, and Dollie's father is listed as Sam Tincher. On both Dollie's marriages records, she lists George as her father. On Blanche's death Certificate the father is William Bowles. I don't think anyone knew who their father was.

I have a picture of Hulda, Eskew and maybe Blanche. You can email me at yugichick@yahoo.com, if you are interested.

Thank you Joyce, for that information!! I would assume Hulda's kids, Eskew, Myrtle and Blanche would be buried near her. Dollie is the only one buried in a different cemetery. I have not found Myrtle's death certificate, she was the second wife to my great grandfather. I received info from a relative that she died in 1917. If you happen to find anything the next time you go, please let me know. I appreciate the help!

LOL....I pressed enter before I was done...My wife's maternal grandfather was John T. Harrah (1871-1911). He was married to Annie Henson. Thank you again for taking the photo. George

Thank you very much Joyce. It is my wife that is connected to many of those buried in the Harrah Cemetery. We live near Baltimore, so it is quite a trek to obtain this photo.

Like you, I am also a volunteer photographer. Unfortunately, most the the local cemeteries here have become part of larger, national cemetery chains. They now charge a $50 fee to look up two burial plots so i don't get to take many headstone photos any more.

Once again, I thank you for obtaining my requested photograph. George W. Anderson, Glen Burnie, MD
