Bio and Links
Bio Photo Recently, I became interested in my family lineage and have been striving to fill in the blanks. Someone pointed me to FindaGrave.com to find where a distant relative was buried. I submitted a request and within a couple of days, I had a photo of the marker that showed me that the relative was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart in WWII. With this information, I was able to determine where he served and other information about him.

Since a FindaGrave contributor made the effort to acquire the photo that provided me with so much information, I felt that I needed to pay it forward in order to help others in their searches.

Hopefully, my efforts will help others who will volunteer and the Find a Grave community will grow.

RE: Aramita Custer - Western State Hospital
Thank you for your message. Aramita's parents, George & Harriett, died before 1900 and I do not know where they are buried. Some of her brothers have death certificates but burial only states 'Botetourt Co.'.
I hope this information is helpful.

Western State Hospital
Hello, my name is Nancy Baker and I have searched for my great grandmother for 30 years or so and still have very little information about her. I think she was at Western State Hospital at one time and may have died there..but, I see no mention of her name along with the people buried in that cemetery. I 'think' her name was Annie Landries/Landreth who had been married to Augustus Freeman. He died at the Battle of Cold Harbor on June 4, 1864. I believe he left two small daughters, most likely Mary Augustus Freeman who married Richard Curd and possibly another by the name of Nora. Of course, I'm not asking you to do any research for me, but wondering if you would know of any other place (or places)close by that she may have been buried in? I've searched many cemeteries, but have not found her...ugh!!! She's one of my nightmare ancestors that I'm just stuck on.
Any kind of information will be much appreciated from you or anyone reading this.
Thanks for your work!!!

Do you know how the plot system works in the Old Western State Hospital? I have a grandmother buried there in plot 21 #53.

Justice "Wiley," Memorial #42274811
I have received the commitment papers for this individual and it is evident that he was Justus Willey, son of Eber Willey and Rebecca Maddy in Monroe County, Virginia (now West Virginia). He served with an infantry unit from Tennessee in the Mexican War and I am considering requesting a veteran's tombstone (federal government supplies these for free). But the cemetery operators must agree. Based on what you have told me the cemetery was turned over to a private developer by the city of Staunton (?). From what you know do you think they would cooperate in erecting a tombstone?

Mary L Daniel birth year
Hi,

I just submitted an edit for Mary's birth year. The birth year calculated by Western State is way off (1814). She was the first wife of my wife's great grandfather. I have a marriage record that shows she married in 1884 and proceeded to have three children. If the Western records were correct, that would have made her 70 years old when she married my wife's great grandfather. I have an 1870 census that shows she was born in 1864 which is a much more reasonable date.

Thanks,
Bob
