I just came across a curious claim for damages suffered during the WBTS at "Needwood" in Hanover on behalf of a Caleb GOLDSBY in 1877. Evidently he was living in Caroline Co that year but someone filed a $300 claim with the Southern Claims Commission--there was an itemized list---and he was awarded $150.....could he be part of your GOOLSBY search?

I grew up in nearby Studley and have ties to the older families so when I started researching I collected as much as possible for anyone associated with Hanover simply because I figured it probably be useful eventually! ;-)
The only Goolsby I have is for an Alex Goolsby who was the son of Sandra Tate (daughter of Raymond and Marie Tate) who married an unknown Goolsby. I get most of my information from obituaries since the local library (I live over in Chester) has the Richmond newspapers going back to 1850 on microfilm and I can look them up if I have a death date. I even find a lot by accident when looking for someone else!
This Tate line goes back to Elkanah Tate--my maternal great-grandmother was Anna Tate (married Richard Hott) and her father was Henry Cary Tate (son of Henry Tate who was Elkanah's grandson). Raymond Tate passed away in 2006 and that was when I encountered the Goolsby name in his obituary. Are you connected to that Goolsby? If you are, I would be happy to tell anything I know about the Tate (and related) families!
McGhee is a popular name in that area so I will definitely try to get in touch with Chuck at the church to learn more if I can. It is a beautiful church and I have been in the cemetery a few times doing research---I went to Enon Methodist growing up and also have a lot of ties to Shady Grove and Gethsemane as well as Salem Presbyterian and some more distant ones over at Black Creek, Cool Springs, and Immanuel Episcopal.
Thanks for getting back to me and let me know if you are related and would like any information!

I see that you have contributed a lot of photos to the Walnut Grove cemetery--do you know much about the church itself? While I have a lot of family connections to Hanover County (and grew up there!, at the moment I have a short college paper on the church's history to write. My (immediate) family belonged to Enon Methodist but I have quite a few family members buried in the local churches. Ironically, many of the living family members (like myself) no longer live in the county! I have also collected hundreds of obituaries from the various cemeteries and family burying grounds, if are looking into any particular line. (I did not simply go straight back, but branched into every family line that had any connections.)

I suggested edits for her surname and death date based on her Social Security death index on Ancestry.com

That would be great. Thank you.
Brian, I was at Shady Grove UMC, Mechanicsville, cemetery the other day looking for a grave marker for someone. I didn't find it, but I did photograph some others that don't have photos yet on Find A Grave. I tried to add a couple of them, but they wouldn't download onto the page. I'm new at this. Can you tell me how to do it? Are you the only one who can download photos?

I am a Thurmond descendant and came across your "Goolsby" name.
Do you have a Sarah Goolsby in your line?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks Brian, I am searching for more Goolsbys. My GGrandmother is Florence Goolsby from Nelson County, she married McCue Quick, I know that line of Goolsbys have a lot of family from Nelson. Let me know if I can help you in any way, we may be long lost cousins if your related to Goolsbys.
I am searching for information on Robert H Goolsby that was married to Alice Lowe. Do you know if this is the Robert you have.
