I am an amateur Genealogist who has been researching my family roots for a several years. I started with my mother's family since she had been a DAR member and expanded the search to all our family lines. Although I do most of my research online, I find the trips to family graveyards, museums and historical societies the most rewarding. Professionally, I am a graphic designer and enjoy finding old family pictures and cleaning them up for the family as well as posting them on Find A Grave.

I am searching for Andes family connections in the Shenandoah Valley. Looking for George Andes, the father of Mary (Andes) Hubbert [1819-1903].

I am also searching for the family of George Howbert, born in Powells Fort, Virginia. He lived in Shenandoah County, Virginia probably before 1794. He lived in New Market, Shenandoah County, Virginia after 1794. He lived in Salem, Roanoke County, Virginia in 1817.

I am looking for family connections to Capt. Isaac Kirby of Baltimore/Annapolis areas [1835? - 1915]. He married Madora W. Arnold of Arnold, MD.

William Roberts - Champlain NY
Just added info. from his obituary that I found to his bio. He actually died Dec 17 , 1964 (per his obituary published on Dec. 24, 1964) not Dec. 24 at Physicians hospital (Plattsburg, NY)

Best regards

Thank you for the SAC's for Leila Roberts.

However, per her obituary she died in Syracuse NY not Fayetteville NY (her last residence per the SSDI). See information I added to her bio. Also can you tell me your source for her middle name "Philman" ?

As mentioned in my profile I like to verify SAC's if possible prior to adding information to Find A Grave pages

Best regards

RE: Absalom smith
It is a beautiful location. I almost abandoned yesterday's search because a lot of the areas there are private property and I was unsure where they would be located but had a feeling that it would be near this one road and I'm glad I turned around. If you don't look carefully, you won't even see the gravesite. I have driven by that location about 7-8 times since moving here and had no idea. But it is a very beautiful site and I can see why they would have wanted to be interred in such a location. I feel sorry for the pallbearers as it was not an easy climb from the road and depending on how it looked in 1861-1862 I hope they were able to approach from the other side and carry them down to that spot.

I told my wife it was neat that since 1862, Absalom and Martha are sitting on that elevated plot of earth watching the land change. I really won't be talking much to folks about this gravesite otherwise because I don't want it disturbed. Having a lot of folks going there would destroy the landscape and that's the last thing I would want for the gravesite.

Do you have any information on Absalom and Martha Garwood Smith? I started researching them based on the name of Absalom Smith Road in Salem. All I have on them is their status as "prominent landowners" in the area. Their daughter married a Garst and I believe he probably was the one that Garst Mill is named after. Their son, Jefferson Davis Smith only has information about living and dying in Bennett Springs (near Absalom Smith Road). Judging by the name I am certain he was named after The Jefferson Davis. Any information you have would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Louise Gale is my husband's grandmother. I'll have to let him know about the family photos. Thanks for your message!
