Elihu Davis
You can certainly reach me by email - either through Elihu's memorial (which is the correct way to do it and not through public messages) or by using my email directly. I looked at the DC more closely and see that it says 1849 and not 1840. That is consistent with an age of 72 years and 9 months which is what the DC says. The names of his parents are on his memorial and that is all that is necessary.

RE: ANNE LITTLEJOHN JONES
Thanks for your input. About the time that you were leaving this note, we discovered the obit in the Raleigh Register. Your effort to assist is greatly appreciated!

RE: ANNE LITTLEJOHN JONES
Thanks so much for finding and bringing this to my attention! Yes, "RR" is the standard shorthand for Raleigh Register. I will pull this on my next visit to State Archives.
Any other facts you might have on the marriage would be appreciated. Interesting that they were married for 8 years before giving birth. In those days, you could almost guarantee the first child was born within 8-10 months following the wedding!
Of course, there's always the possibility of miscarriages, which would not have been recorded... and then the first one to come to term ended in loss of both mother and child.
I've seen a reference (no evidence) that Anne's father sold to Benson an operating tanyard located adjacent to his home, and that Benson sold it at some point after Anne's death, but so far have not been able to find any deeds at the courthouse. Do you know anything about that? Also, where did they live? I've seen references to Oxford, Hillsborough, and Raleigh. but again, nothing certain.

RE: Robert Boyd
I can't read the photo any better than you, but according to J. Smith Futhey's gravestone listing, Robert Boyd died aged 65. Futhey's book is called "Historical Discourse Delivered on the Occasion of the One Hundred and Fiftieth Anniversary of the Upper Octorara Presbyterian Church, Chester County, Pennsylvania, September 14, 1870" and it is accessible on Google books.
