Redgate Photos

I'd like to copy your Redgate photos for my tree, but as I'm not a "cut and paster" a couple questions

1. May I, with photo credit to you

2. Are these from your personal collection?

My Redgates are your Redgates

See my tree at:

My kids were all born in Hutchinson KS, we live in Glendale AZ now

RE: re- Elias Andrew

Having a few minutes to spare, I stopped back @ Hillside yesterday — and my visit brought these results:

1. There are no other monuments or markers immediately adjacent to Elias' monument; and I found no marked grave for his wife in the immediate area.
2. re-Charles
Unearthed and brushed off the monument I previously mentioned to you. Its top is just inches from the base of Elias' monument. Unfortunately, it appears (to me) that Charles is unrelated — and that his marker probably toppled and broke at some point, landing where it now lies. Just coincidence I'd guess. Underneath 'son of', it looks like 'William Mathu' (?). Hard to tell, but definitely not Elias Andrew. I've posted a couple of additional photos to Elias' memorial that you might see for yourself. Let me know after you've had a look and I'll delete them.

RE: re- Elias Andrew

Your theory re the two sons may be correct. That practice, as you may know, was quite common in that era.

FYI— I had Elvira's info with me while looking for Elias' grave, but didn't see any nearby marker or monument for her. Will give it a second look when I'm there next. She may be in an unmarked grave, or have an illegible marker (of which there are so many @ Hillside).

re- Elias Andrew

It appears that his son Charles is buried in the same grave (or plot). There was a small monument laying flat in front of his, but somewhat buried by earth. I could make out the name Charles and the word 'son'; but wasn't prepared to do any scraping or digging today. If you need it, I can put it on my list for later in the season.

RE: Zilpha Alden Morey
Stephen Hopkins! Pick up a copy of Here Shall I Die Ashore, by Caleb Johnson. Mr. Johnson runs a website calls, has written numerous articles for most of the top genealogical journals, and is current editor of The Mayflower Descendant. He's the person who discovered that Stephen Hopkins the Bermuda castaway & short-term Jamestown resident was the same person as Stephen Hopkins the Mayflower passenger.

Zilpha Alden Morey
Hi John,

Thought you'd like to know that I submitted my evidence of Zilpha Morey's Alden ancestry to the chair of the Mayflower Society's silver books project, and she concurs with my identification.
