I am not related. I am retired and just enjoy walking the cemeteries and taking photos of stones which I place on the Find-a-Grave website.

I'm not an expert on counterfeit military markers but it looks like every other WWI marker I've seen.
It is also possible that this man is not your husband's uncle.
|Ellie's Grandma||RE: 61417039 Rachel Payne Craig|
From what I can make out:
"Farewell my children all
From you a mother Christ doth
Call. Mourn not for me it is in vain.
To call me to your side again."
Rachel is the 3rd great-grandmother of my sister's husband and 4th great-grandmother of their children (my nephews and niece.)
But not for that, hoping soon they will want to manage the memorial, I would transfer.
Do hope this helps you..

Now that I know her last name is Craig, I am able to find the memorial. Since it was 4 years ago, I no longer have the original photo. It appears the stone was broken. If I still lived in Indiana, I would definitely go back to Otwell and try to enhance the wording at the bottom of the tombstone. My only suggestion would be to request the photo again and specifically ask for a clearer picture of the words.
If you know how to find memorials by a number, would you please explain. I have never known the trick.

Hi Taffy, So tragic. I just put a little on his memorial. If you'd like to manage your husband's great-grandmother's memorial or any of your other relatives, just let me know. Thanks. Mary

taffy, you are most welcome - and I have transferred management of your father's memorial to your care, as it should be. There are some great photo volunteers for Find A Grave working at SVNC, so I am certain you'll have a photo of his marker very soon.
All my best, Mark

I have transferred Reba Laabs memorial over to you for future care of Reba Laabs memorial......unfortunatley I live 150 miles away from this cemetery location so I do not know if a gravestone has been placed at the gravesite.
You might contact Tim Hultine that posted the pics for Reba's gravesite.
The stone is worn but it does say 1845. Plus 1815 would mean his mother was 7 when she gave birth to him.

|David Ballard||RE: # 31085044 James Walker|
All the information that I posted came from the headstone. James W. Walker. It is entirely possible that the "L" is an "I". The cemetery is in very good condition, compared to when i found it in 2008. (Thanks to the BSA, and Mike and Vicky Fields!) I looked at the picture I have of James' headstone, and it is just not clear enough to determine if it is an L or and I.

I already connected Burtie to his parents--the one you sent earlier was for Allen. You had linked Allen's parents as Allen himself and Belle. That is why I declined the edit. I connected Peter to Allen, but do not know where Sarah is buried.
