Bio and Links
Bio Photo We are the chosen ones. My feelings are in each family there is one who seems to be called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve of what the chosen ones are doing.

To me, doing genealogy, since 1999, is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead, breathing life into all our Pioneers that has gone before us.

In finding them,I am trying too put the pieces together and somehow maybe I'll be able too put my own pieces together.

I would like to Thank you for all your help.

I found this poem, hope you like it!!!!

A Prayer for Genealogists

Lord, help me dig into the past and sift the sands of time that I might find the roots that made this of mine.
Lord, help me trace the ancient roads on which my fathers trod and led them through so many lands to find our present sod.
Lord, help me find an ancient book or dusty manuscript. That's safely hidden now away in some forgotten crypt.
Lord, let it bridge the gap that haunts my soul when I can't find the missing link between some name that ends the same as mine.

Maranto's of Shreveport
I am from the line of the Matteo Maranto of New Orleans.
I have traced them back to Cefalu Italy. Was just wondering if yours were from Cefalu also?

RE: Lucy Hazel
Sandy, thank you for the info, and I am sorry it took so long to get back to you. Guess we have been busy with life in general lately. I looked on here to see where your ancestor Susan was buried and was surprised to find she is buried about 40 miles from our house in Texas! Small world!

I would be honored to take responsibility for the memorial, Sandy. I feel like you do. I am the one in our family that takes has become the keeper of the memories, the stories, the pictures and I, too, love making these people come alive. Thank you, Peggy Bassett

Lucy Hazel
We just visited the Bethsaida Cemetery in Boaz, AL to see the graves of my (Lewis) 2x great grandparents, Lafayette and Lucy Hazel. We found where Lafayette was buried with his son and daughter in law, but there was no grave for Lucy, his wife. Do you have any information confirming that she is buried there, or anything else about her? I am descended through their daughter, Annie Oma Sarah Ann. Are you kin to them? If not, I'd gladly take over management of Lafayette.

RE: John Oliver Hicks
My father was Ernest Renfroe Hicks, Sr. son of John Oliver Hicks. Yes, the head stone for my father in Jefferson shows "Renfro". That is because there were never any headstones laid when my mother was killed in a farm accident then the next year when my dad passed. I was age 13 & 14 and very irresponsible to say the least. Years later my oldest daughter (Daphne Dell) had the headstones laid and gave it to me as Christmas present. That was a very touching... She didnít know how we spelled Renfroe. I remember Aunt Mattie and Jack Champion. She had leg braces because (I think) she had polo years before. They would come down and visit.
I have John Oliver Hicksís family bible which list the children. There are a few old newspaper articles folded between the pages. Our youngest daughter (Kasey Ann) named there youngest (of 3) John Oliver after my granddad.
And thank you for responding. I keep thinking that I would take some time and do ancestry research.
May the Good Lord bless you and your family.
How can I share my contact INFO with just you and not the public?

FAG #149709017 for Betty Cockrum
Are you sure the link to the FindaGrave memorial for her first husband Carl Gilbert is correct?
The Carl Gilbert from Find A Grave was born 1 JAN 1921 in Florida according to the California Death Index. However, the Idaho marriage record for Betty and Carl says he was born in Kentucky.
