|Jeanette Hinson||Culbertson Relation|
Hi I have been searching for my Grandfather's side of the family. His name was Woodrow Wilson Culbertson. He lived in Greenwood, SC. He was born Jan. 25,1914 and he passed away June 16, 2004. I know nothing about his side of the family. My father passed away in 1996 and he never talked of his father's side of the family. Would you happen to have any information? Thank you for taking the time to read this,
Jeanette Culbertson Hinson

Thank you for contacting me. I have been researching the Cooper and Culbertson families of Laurens County SC for some time now. I also believe that I am the great granddaughter (8th generation) of Robert Culbertson (wife Elizabeth Porter) through his son James Culbertson who married Nancy Babb. I have not been able to verify all the children of James and Nancy except through a family genealogy book by Lewis Culbertson.
I believe that Edney Culbertson (born 1795)was one of their children and in 1823 she married a Wilson Cooper who was considerably younger than her...they had five sons before she died at the age of 39. She is buried in the same private cemetery as Robert Culbertson in Laurens County but the grave marker is gone. Wilson Cooper went on to remarry a Rebecca Ewing and they had a bunch more Cooper children.
I have also written to several churches, distant cousins and the historical society trying to verify the marriage of Edney and Wilson but have not been able to obtain any records from these places. I have reason to believe that Edney Culbertson and Wilson Cooper were members of the Poplar Springs Baptist Church for some time.
I did receive copies of a bible record that belonged to Rev. John Anderson Cooper (Old Quaker Church) that list many of the family deaths and marriages including Edney and Wilson. John Anderson was one of their sons and was the Rev. for the church during the Civil War.
I would be glad to share anything that might be of interest to you. I have been assisted by other family members and am glad to help in anyway I can.
