Hey Cousin Jim,
Thanks for making our connection clear. I read your mom's biography and felt sadness over her early years and for her recent death. My sympathies to you and your family. I'm going to try to figure out how to add "Uncle Billy's" tintype photo as well as his sister Mary Rebecca's. My grandmother Ida Mae Lossing would refer to William Ransom Wortley as "Uncle Billy."
Let's keep in touch.

Hi again, Jim,
Tell me how you are related to William Ransom Wortley,ok? I know he had several children.
I met one of his grandsons down in the Whitmore Lake area back in the 1980's. His name was Clare. He told me that William R and Mary R's father, William, was also a short guy -- who was a jockey at one time. They were from England.

One more thing, Jim.
On the 1861 Hastings, Ontario (Sydney village), you can find William R. and Mary R. listed as "Sherman" in the James and Eleanor Sherman family. This would be about three or four years after William Ransom says they were orphaned in his obituary.
|Pat Kozal||RE: William Wortley/ Mary Wortley Lossing|
Sorry that it has taken me awhile to answer you. William Ransom Wortley and Mary Rebecca Wortley Lossing were brother and sister. They were orphaned and taken in by the James and Eleanor Sherman family, whom I presume were relatives in that William listed his mother and father as William and Mary Wortley on a couple of documents. My great grandmother, Mary Rebecca, listed her name as Mary R. Sherman which she married Philo Lossing in 1871. But it was clear too my grandmother that Mary R. was never adopted. Grandma referred to the Shermans as Mary R.'s foster parents. She made sure that Wortley was on all of her own documents. I have two photos of William Ransom and Mary Rebecca when they were young. I hope to download them soon and post them on my ancestry page. Contact me anytime, ok? Pat Kozal

I was just wondering if you are descended from Captain Jesse Bradley (1736-1812)?
