RE: about Hulda Haapa and Lilli Leino
Huldas maiden name was Hellsten. Hulda had taken a new surname already in Finland before 1907. The early 20th century was the age of raising nationalism in Finland. Many finns translated their surnames from swedish to finnish, some took completely new finnish name like Hulda did. I don´t know why Hulda choosed that name (in english Aspen). One of the Hulda's sisters with her husband had translated their swedish surname (from Lindberg to Lehmusvaara). Hulda had two sisters in Finland still alive when she emigrated to USA in 1922. The father and the other childen of the family were dead, but the mother was still alive.

Pleas contact to Clara to get my email address so I can give you more detailed information about the family.

RE: about Hulda Haapa and Lilli Leino
Sounds incredible. The family was big (at least in modern standards). I can not understand my second cousins have not told you that. I don´t know wich one of those two moved first to States. I know when Hulda arrived to states, but Emma was not in the list of passagers of that ship.

We should find a place to change personal messages, it is not good to publish email addresses here. I have asked Clara MacIver to make transfers of memorials to me.

The year of Emma's death is not correct. The image is blur on that point. I have suggest a correction not yet made. She died in 1933 not in 1935.

RE: about Hulda Haapa and Lilli Leino
Hulda was my dad's aunt (from fathers side). Lilli was his cousin. Two of her children, my second cousins visited us in Finland in 1996, but we have not been able to contact them for a long time. Hope they have survived the hurricane (Sandy).

RE: about photos of John and Mary Czerw
I am not related. If you are not local and cannot get to the cemetery, let me know the plot numbers and I'll get better photos for you. They have all their records on computer and can look up anyone, so have a list and get all the information you can.

Haapa & Leino memorials
I was able to add a few memorials from this cemetery, but I'm not related to any of them. If you would like a transfer, please let me know. I like to have relatives take over their family memorials whenever there's an interest.
