|Judy Webb Swann||Buttrills in the UK|
From an article about James M. Buttrill (1831-1902): The article states, "His paternal great-grandfather, Thomas Buttrill, was a native of England who came to America and settled in Virginia before the Revolutionary War." A second evidence of the existence of Thomas Buttrill, Sr. is in the unpublished notes prepared by Mrs. Mary Buttrill Watson born in 1842.(great granddaughter of Thomas Buttrill, Sr) She states :Thomas Buttrill, wife, and son William came to the United States from England in 1776. The census 1784-1787 shows Thomas Buttill family with 10 slaves and no children at home in Warren County, North Carolina.
I got this info in Ancestry.com. I don't know how accurate it is.
