I love to photograph old grave sites and make the loved ones images come true. The resting places can tell a story in themselves. and seeing the differences in the era's of which the stones or markers were placed is also intriguing.|
when the weather breaks here in Michigan and it's not so doggone cold and windy out there, i'll be back at it.
update: it's getting nicer out, it wont be long and i'll be taking pictures again.
and hopefully help to make your memorials in this area whole.

Thank you for your email regarding the Dotys.
You referred to Maila Doty from the period of the 1820 & 1830 Censuses. If you're speaking of Maila Doty, dau. of Harvey Doty & Aphiah Austin, she was my 2X-gr-grandmother. Maila Doty married Lothrop Moss and they lived in Davison, Genesee Co., MI, where they are buried.
Alfred Burnham Doty was the brother of Maila (Doty) Moss. Apparently, among his other children, he had a daughter, Laura Maila Doty. She appears in the 1870 & 1880 Censuses for Grant Twp., Huron Co., MI. And, yes, you're right, Alfred was married more than once. His first wife, Mary (Beech) Doty, died in 1873. Alfred had a second wife, Maria or Mariah (Hyde) Doty, who died in 1907 and is buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Seattle, WA. In the 1900 Census, this Maria or Mariah Doty was living with her son-in-law, Frank J. Miller in Whatcom, Whatcom Co., WA. Frank was a widower (perhaps the husband of Mary Permella Doty?).
Part of the challenge is not only knowing the family structure, but from a 'Find A Grave' perspective, knowing where all these family members are buried.
Are you related to the Doty family, Jan? If so, I would be very interested in knowing from what branch you are descended. And, thank you again for stepping forward with this additional information.

Let's edit it to explain who she was. Thanks again.

Just found out that Mary Ella Turner is the sister of Olive LaFave LaPratt. So Mary Ella was Frank LaPratt's sister in law.

I sent a message saying that this grave is not marked. Did you get that from Find A Grave? There is a space there next to the others I decided had to be him by counting the grave numbers. If you will re post for photo I will take a photo of the entire site for you and add to the memorial... Thanks...Jan
