I'm thrilled to have found this website, and enjoy adding to the Harshman family across the country. I owe all of the information to Charles William Harshman and his wife Mavourneen Harshman who documented all the Harshman in the U.S. in their first two books through about 1976. They put together thousands of extended Harshman family members without a computer. My first entry to FAG was my younger brother Douglas Asa "Doug" Harshman who passed away in 2009. |
Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished marble stone.
It reaches out to all who care
It is to late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, and bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find the spot,
And come to visit you.
In eternal honor of our ancestors
Who left behind so much,
Who started here with so little,
That we might have everything.

Are you descended from her and Jonathan Harshman? She is my 2x great-aunt. Her brother Benjamin Franklin Harne is my great grandfather.
|M. Thayer||Andrew (Andreus) Harshman|
This is regarding the Find A Grave record you did for Andrew (Andreus) Harshman (Hershman, Hirschmann) (Find A Grave Memorial #87099531). I noticed two errors in the record. First, you state that he was under 16 when he came to America in 1751. If he was born in 1729, as the record also states, he would actually have been around 22 years old. Also, the record states that he did not sign the Oath of Allegiance. That isn't correct. His name is on the list of people who signed, on Page 349 of "Names of Foreigners Who Took the Oath of Allegiance to the Province and State of Pennsylvania, 1727-1775." It's the last name on that page.
By the way, my maternal grandmother was a Harshman. I'm descended from Andrew's half-brother Christian. You did the Find A Grave record for him as well.
