Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have been avidly doing family history research since 1977. I have recently realized what a wonderful resource 'Find A Grave' is for this work. I have long enjoyed walking cemeteries with an eye to the older graves, and have paid my respects to many of my own and others' ancestors in graveyards and cemeteries all over the country. While I'm not able, time-wise, to make a firm commitment to be a photo volunteer in my area, I have and will continue to post photos and bio details for any memorials I am able to expand upon.

Thanks for photographing her gravestone. I'd no idea it was so tall and grand! Love the photo. Thank you so much.

RE: Tunis Roosa, Jr
Good morning. I visited the Roosa grave site about 10 years ago and have photos I can send them if you would like to have them. Tunis' loss of sight does not seem to be unusual among 7th Iowa Cavalry veterans, as many had later issues. One theory has been the exposure to alkali dust. Even officers were not immune. I look forward to seeing whatever you are willing to share, and more than willing to reimburse you for expenses such as copying and postage. Sincerely, Dean Knudsen

Thank you so much for the prompt reply and interest. As to why Tunis enlisted in the 7th Iowa Cavalry, I cannot say with certainty. But he appears to have previously enlisted in the 9th Kansas Infantry but was found to be underage. Two companies of the 7th Iowa Cav were stationed at Fort Riley and that may be how he came to join up with them. More later - Dean Knudsen

Tunis Roosa, Jr
Hello, I was very interested when I found the two photos of Tunis Roosa on Find-A-Grave, and wondered if there is any additional information about him that you might be willing to share with me? I am assembling background information on 7th Iowa Cavalry veterans in the hope of putting together a book, and look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely- Dean Knudsen, 7th Iowa Cavalry researcher
