Valentine lineage
Mr. Winward,

I ran across your postings on this site and I would like to know more about your Valentine lineage. I think we may have some common ancestors.

My grandmother was Bertha Mae Valentine, (1906-1987). Her mother died when she was 7 and her father drove a wagon from OK Indian Terr. to Hot Springs, Arkansas and gave her and her two younger sisters away. (This is really a sad story.)

However, my grandmother told me her parents were Addison Ely Valentine and Lucy Anna Woods. I found them on the 1910 Census in Garvin Co. Oklahoma.

Best I can piece together, Addison was the son of Ira Freeman Valentine and Martha Ann Denton. I think my Ira Valentine is the son of Eli Valentine (1806-1865)you speak of in your post.

This Eli Valentine lived in Franklin county Missouri and was married 4 times. I think Ira may be the only child of him and his 2nd wife America Wright/Right.

If any of this sounds familiar to you please get back to me privately at
I hope we have some kind of kinship, as this branch of my tree has been so elusive. Thanks for your time.

RE: Nathan Schoonover
Margaret Taylor Wright was the daughter of Rachel and Rachel Stoner Taylor. She married Sylvestor Wright in JUl 8, 1877. She was born in Jan 30, 1858 so she was 11 yrs younger than Nathan.

RE: Nathan Schoonover
I have Elsie Wrights mother as Margaret Elizabeth Taylor Wright Schoonover. Margaret's first husband was William Sylvester Wright. In 1920 she married Nathan Martin Schoonover, her son-in-laws father. So the photo on Nathan's memorial is of Elsie's mother and father-in-law, Nathan, when they were married.

RE: Nathan Schoonover
It is the wedding photo for Nathan and his 3rd wife Margaret Wright.
Nathan is my great grandfather on my mothers side. His daughter Arvilla married AJ Willis. Their daughter Pearl, married Lincoln Frakes. Their only daughter Gertrude Melvina Frakes married my father Delbert O. Stanturf.

RE: Valentines
There are two Eli Valentines in the county that I have record of. One (1851-1932) is buried in the small graveyard at Krakow. The other Eli (1839-1840) is a child of Ira and M.S. Valentine and he is buried at what we call the Valentine-Miller Cemetery which is in Boone Township south of Leslie.

Obviously, neither of these died during the Civil War, so perhaps there was yet another Eli Valentine. The Krakow-Valentines and the Valentines in Boone Township are related, but I don't know all of the connections exactly.
