When I was a child, my maternal grandmother often took me to visit extended family. Those visits spurred my interest in family history and genealogy. Knowing where my family is buried is important to me. So many people have spent time making resources available to me for my research. FAG is an great place for me to "pay forward."

I can't remove a picture I did not put in. The person who put it in would have to remove the picture.

photo block
I was wondering why there is a photo block on Phoebe Nicks Brashears memorial and why the photo of her headstone was removed?

Claudy is my fifth cousin. Jacob Hare, the noted Tory, is our 4th great grandfather.

RE: Bird Coleman
Yes, you would be correct with the memorial beginning with 410. I will delete the page I posted, which would have been based on a listing in one of the McClain County Historical Volumes. Thanks for your kindly-written query in regards to that likely error and glad there was a photo to help confirm the burial location.

RE: Bird Coleman
Okay, let me try this again.

#41031940 - this is the correct memorial; in Holsonbake cemetery; his daughter is buried here also; both have headstones.

#13913615 - this is incorrectly listed in Corbett cemetery; the person who did this believed Corbett and Holsonbake cemeteries were one cemetery (they are two separate cemeteries about 2 - 3 miles apart). There is no headstone for 13913615. This is the one I tried unsuccessfully to have removed. The Cleveland County cemetery book does not show Bird Coleman in Corbett cemetery - this one is a mistake.

#98899586 - this is listed in Hillside Cemetery in McClain County; the person who entered it assumed since he was living in McClain county (Purcell) that he was buried there. He was not. Many of the people buried in Holsonbake cemetery were actually living at Purcell when they died.

#41031940 is the correct memorial for Bird Coleman.

There is quite a bit of information on Ancestry on the Coleman line if you belong to Ancestry.

Good luck in your continued search.

Bird Coleman
Good Morning Renee:

Glad Holsonbake Cemetery helped you. Let me see if I can explain this about the duplicate memorials. Bird is definitely buried in the Holsonbake Cemetery.

I was on my way home from the Corbett Cemetery one day when I happened upon Holsonbake Cemetery - so I stopped and photographed all the headstones in it. I subsequently went back to both cemeteries two more times double checking things. Holsonbake Cemetery is just down the road a hop-skip-and-a-jump from Corbett. If one is driving too fast it will be missed - it is up on the top of a shaded hill; it is well maintained. (The Hillside cemetery in McClain County is further down the road still).

Keep in mind pre 1900 the area around Hillside Cemetery was pretty wild. While Bird Coleman died in Purcell he was buried in Holsonbake Cemetery (that is where the headstone is) I got the information on him out of a book 'Cleveland County Oklahoma Cemeteries Volume 1 - both the Oklahoma Historical Society in OKC and the Cleveland Historical Society have the book). I established the memorial in 2009 from the headstone). I sent two emails to the person who established the memorial in Corbett seeking to get it removed but was unsuccessful.

You will note that the Bird Coleman memorial in both Corbett and Hillside do not have headstones (I have also photographed headstones out of Hillside - it is a huge cemetery). I suspect the person who established the memorial at Hillside did it because of the fact that Bird died in Purcell and they assumed he was buried there.

If you are seeing family information I would check with the Cleveland County Historical/Geneagolical Society - they have very good information. Also check the newspapers for the time Bird Coleman died as the newspapers frequently carried death notices. The old newspapers are maintained at the Oklahoma Historical society in Oklahoma City.

Good luck in your continued search.

Elizabeth Willliams
I added a photo for Elizabeth today. Her dates are on it. The plot # should be 178. There were other Williams' in the same plot, so I added photos for them as well. Happy hunting.

Renee, I am transferring Pheobe's memorial page to you since I am not related. If there are any other memorials from Brashears-Kries Cemetery that you would like, send me a suggest a correction. Thanks. Louise
