Because God knocked on the door of my home when I was very young, and asked my Grandfather to go Home with Him, and shortly thereafter, knocked again and asked my Mother to go Home, then very few years later, knocked yet again asking my Father Home, I spent a good deal of time in cemeteries. After Mother died I would go to the cemetery, sit beside her grave, and talk to her. I would drag my friends out there with me, riding our bicycles, and we'd play beside Mama. |
It served to give me a great respect for cemeteries, for the people who lay in them and for the family who visited.
I have always enjoyed kicking around graveyards, straightening stones where I could, pulling weeds, trimming grass back, reading headstones and wondering about all the people. Now, with FAG there is a reason to photograph the stones, to record the information on them along with the memories they represent.
The family names I'm researching are Wolf/Wolff/Woolf/Wolfe, Chatelain, Filler/Fuller/Fueller, Weippert, Ferdig, Holbrook, Shelledy/Shellady/Shilledeay, DeLong, Watkins, Volkmann, Bubb/Bopp, Baker, Tool and many, many others. It took a great many people to make ME!
I live near Cody, Wyoming. If anyone needs research done in this area, I'll see if I can help!

For the Bethel & St. Johns cemetery I was transferring records from another website.
It does have photos of the headstones but I do not have any additional information.

It was fun to find him, why does every cemetery have a different layout/map? LOL

I went ahead and created a memorial for Melvern Willis Williams (#163897430) in Blue Mound after I did a whole-site search on Find A Grave to make sure he wasn't entered in another state. I will try to get out there soon to check on a headstone.

Thanks for the updates. I accepted the edit, and then re-edited for the location.

Thank you for your message on find-a-grave.
I would have found my resources on familysearch.org and TN Hawkins Co Genweb. I'll try to remember to add the references to his page.
Good catch! Hope we are cousins.

I have spent the morning trying to figure out where George or Louisa Grubb are buried or any information on them other than marriage records. They seem to have disappeared. Certainly no death records for them in WV or PA. I did find a good record of Louisa and her first husband John S. Lemmon on ancestry and they had children. That site lists her death as before 1914.

Thank you, Rita, for allowing me to add Vida to Blue Mound Cemetery and link her to her husband. I appreciate your thoughtfulness!

I am the great great grandson of Rosetta Ann Ferdig, she was married to my great great grandfather William Oscar Short. They had 12 children, one of which who was my great grandfather - Roy Oscar Short. His daughter (my grandmother - is still alive today. I found out most of this information from her.
