Bio and Links
My chief concentration has been on Stetson genealogy for the past three years. I have both Stetson lineage and Shurtleff genealogy books and can help others research their New England roots. I am a volunteer researcher with The Stetson Kindred of Norwell, MA, working with their genealogist on staff. My Cemetery listings have been mainly in Plymouth County, MA and Orange County, VA. Transfer policy is very liberal, so please don't hesitate to ask for a transfer. I am not related to 99% of the memorials I have listed. Please to not add bio information to the Flowers section, as I often find the information is incorrect and this can mislead others, or imply I am not responsive to updates, when in fact a request to add updated information was never submitted. Please use the EDIT tab to submit updates, which are usually done quite quickly except when I may be away from home. Please feel free to post GS photos or family photos, but limit to one of each. Many gracious thanks to those dedicated photographers out there, of which I am not one. Finally, I want to thank every FAG volunteer for their conscientious dedication to making this site such a wealth of information for everyone!

Try looking for her as Bertha instead of Alberta. I found her listed both ways. She might even be Bertha Alberta. It was weird hos she was listed. Thanks for all of your great help! You are right, it is all a collaboration. Jon

Yes, I'd think he'd probably knew better than anyone what his name was! And that you run across funny (and sometimes unexplainable) information in genealogical research. Vicki

Thank you for the additional information on Bernard Stetson. He is extended kin to my daughter-in-law. I've added your note to the biography section with credit to you.

Again, thank you, it's appreciated!

James A. Iapicca
Hi Linda, My name is Kirk Purington, and I would like to ask if you would please transfer the memorial of James Anthony Iapicca, memorial # 115967863 to me? My wife is Denise Purington, nee Iapicca (this was Denise's first husband). It would mean a lot to her.

I thank you very much in advance...Kirk & Denise

James W. Kirk
Linda,
Re your post on James W. Kirk in the First Parish Cemetery in Norwell.

James William Kirk was born in 1834 in Macias, Maine son of Thomas and Joanna Kirk, both from Ireland. James Kirk enlisted as a 1st sergeant with the 8th Battery Light Artillery (Cooks Battery) on May 30, 1862. He was commissioned 2nd lieutenant September 24, 1862 and mustered out November 29, 1862. He re-enlisted with the 15th Battery Light Artillery as a 1st lieutenant on January 16, 1863 and discharged September 26, 1863. He mustered into the 1st Regiment Calvary on September 6, 1864 and discharged for promotion on February 4, 1865. He was promoted to 1st lieutenant and adjutant with the 91st NY Infantry in February 1865 and mustered out on July 3, 1865. James married Abbie F. Damon of South Scituate, and they had one son Willie Edmund Kirk born on May 28, 1865 in South Scituate. Chief Constable Jones appointed James W. Kirk as a state police constable on March 1, 1866. James was involved in the shooting of the notorious criminal Coal Oil Johnny at Chelsea Beach in September 1866. James W. Kirk died in Chelsea at age 33 of “Inflammation of the Wind Pipe” on August 24, 1867 while serving as a state constable. James W. Kirk is buried in the First Parish Cemetery in Norwell, MA.
